Mike: I'm bored! I can't go out an' I'm not having any fun... what a dumb, stupid, rotten day! Elly: Michael, I am fed up with your constant complaining!!! Mike: But, Mom! You don't know what it's LIKE to have nothing to do!!
“hasn’t had nothing” I think someone needs to study grammer.
The grammAr is fine – it’s the correct use of a double negative. “Hasn’t had nothing” = “Has had something!” Elly has always had “something” to do since she had kids.
And isn’t he only 4 in this timeline? He may not be able to read yet (he could look at picture books though.)
The double negative is correct! Having nothing to do is a state of being she has not experienced since she had him.
She has always had something to do, ergo she has not had nothing to do.

When I was a kid I NEVER told my mom I was bored. She always came up with something to do and it was always housework. Better to be bored silly.

ROFL I also learned by this age never to tell Mom or Dad that I was bored. But they could tell. They could tell…
(disclaimer: I’m passing that work ethic off to my own kids now!)

Life before video games and the internet, likely only had 2 or 3 TV stations that didn’t come in clear. Yep life was tuff back then.

Silverpearl says: “hasn’t had nothing” I think someone needs to study grammer.
“nothing to do” is being used as a replacement for “free time”.
