I don’t John will get a scolding. She knows that Dads mean Fun, Moms mean business. The house isn’t a mess, the kids are alright. Trust a Husband and a Father who has been through this very thing, She may scold, but she understands
pookid54 is on the nail: John only took one beer (designating himself as driver–in hindsight, he should really have stuck to soda, so as not to leave room for doubt) during the entire time he and Ted were at the pub–whereas Ted got plastered, and John was nice enough to “carry him home” (taken from lyrics of Holly Dunn song Someone Carried You).
Johnston’s Elly isn’t that much of a perfectionist is she, that she would expect everything in her absence to go exactly as she would dictate? The kids & hubby were bound to hang loose a bit with household routines, and that fun evening with Ted was punishment in itself.
What Mike meant was his dad would have let him sleep in bed with clothes on. Doesn’t mean he did.
“The fun stops when your mother gets home.” My wife is always trying to set me up to be the bad guy. She’s very lazy about setting boundaries and expects me to be the enforcer so she can be the good “guy”.

So much for a nice private reunion in their bedroom. John really needs to think before he speaks.

Elly just got back from a well deserved break. I don’t think she will be mad at John YET.

I just wonder John will not tell Elly that he went out with Ted for a drink and got home drunk? Maybe John doesn’t want Elly to know about it.

I thought he talked him OUT of wearing clothes to bed.

dakabn, you’re right. John let Mike make the decision after describing how uncomfortable his clothes would be.
