Jon: La la la. There's nothing like a bubble bath to cure what ails you, Garfield.
*POW!*
Man: Hey, Jon. What happened to you guys?
Jon: You wouldn't believe me if I told you.
After this, Lyman was pulled into an endless time vortex between dimensions, where he was never seen again until January 19, 2003, when he was discovered by Mayberry Melonpool.
According to the Garfield show (which Jim Davis is a producer on) Lyman is a wildlife photographer and went to Australia to try to get pics of some strange never seen before creature. He meets Garfield and Jon again in 2013. In real life J.D. says the point of lyman’s character was for Jon to have someone to converse with but that Garfield himself evolved to fill that role so Lyman wasn’t needed anymore
And thus, Lyman departs the strip under mysterious circumstances, going to parts unknown, only to be seen again twice and never in person.
I know that Jon ultimately will have Liz to interact with on a regular basis as far as human contact goes, but I do wish he still had like. Other human friends that recurred as much as Lyman initially did, if only so his social life looks a bit less sad.
Hopefully Lyman is well, wherever he is. Incidentally, don’t check the basement. Everything is fine down there, just…no reason to check it, because it’s fine.

Is this Lyman’s last in-strip appearance? He’s in the title panel of the 10th Anniversary strip (June 19, 1988). What ever happened to Lyman?

Bye, Lyman. Good luck with that wildlife photography job in Australia.
On a side note, I couldn’t stop laughing seeing Garfield in a full-bodied cast.

I dunno, Jon, Lyman lived with you long enough that he probably has a good idea of Garfield’s level of hijinks.
