Yes, it’s certainly very convenient to have machines to do all the hard work for us. But that ignores an ultra-important question: How much physical exertion does it take to BUILD those machines, and make sure they work the way they’re supposed to? That’s the great irony about efficiency. It may not require everybody to be exercise freaks, but somewhere along the line there was always somebody somewhere that had to pay for it with their sweat…and sometimes with their blood!
