I posit that there is no need for a “crew” at all. Not to put words in the Doc’s mouth, but if the strip is to go on and grow without pirate themes; why not just make the boat a cruise boat…

Considering some of the cruise line horror stories, pirate ship turned cruise boat doesn’t seem too far a stretch. Personally though, I have no problem with the animals.

I agree, I like the strip as it is. It has always been good, and grew and changed over the years. The new characters are a welcome addition.
