Linus is sitting on the floor clutching his blanket and sucking his thumb, listening to Lucy read. She reads, "Jane sees Tom. Tom can skip. Jane can skip."<br> <br> She continues, "Rex sees Jane and Tom. Rex runs to Jane and Tom."<br> <br> Lucy looks up and asks Linus, "How do you like it so far?" He replies, "Great! Great! Don't stop now!"<br> <br> Lucy continues reading, "I'm glad you like it. Later on the suspense becomes almost unbearable!"<br> <br>

I know the feeling. What with the “show not tell” stuff in school all the writing has become stuff you can feel instead of food for intellect. Quality in the suspense and the colourful linguistics instead of the story itself.
