hey, you were lucky enough to find a penny gumball machine, after that the luck well dried up.

Quarters are the new pennies. Pennies are the new pocket lint.

Prediction: by the end of Obama’s term they will either start making pennies out of aluminum or stop minting them altogether. And one-dollar bills will be dropped and we’ll have to start using the dollar coins the government keeps trying to foist on us. You heard it here first, folks!

doctortoon, that’s why I pick them up too. BTW, I’m not a millionaire, yet I am rich nonetheless.

Another thing from the past that has ceased to exist, penny gumball machines! Sad!

It costs more than a penny to make a penny so it only makes sence to stop making them. But then that is why the government keeps making them i guess.

I’ve always thought this strip took place in the 50s. He watches Lassie. Rolled up jeans. Penny gumball machines make sense.

I pick up all loose change on the ground. It goes in a special bank. At the end of the year, all money goes to the SPCA. Have found over $20.00 in a year that way.

I think you’re right DA59. Wikipedia says it’s set in the 70’s, I just posted on Comics.com 60’s, but when I was Red’s age I was wearing cuffed jeans and watching “Lassie” (the original series, with Tommy Rettig!) on TV. THAT was late fifties!
