Back Around 1967, my father landed in at a Turkish airfield to refuel and resupply.
He was only going to be on the ground for four hours, and couldnât leave the area of the plane, but he knew loved pistachios.
He gave one of the local kids with a bicycle $10, and asked him to ride into town and buy him âthe biggest bag he could get for this muchâ.
Two hours later the boy shows up with a 50 kilo bag (weighed more than the kid did!) and handed my father $6 and change, apologizing for not following instructions, but he didnât think he could have handled the 200 kilo sack on his bike, and couldnât arrange delivery in the time frame.
Yes, my father gave him back the 6 and change, and added $10 for his honesty.
Oh, and Tigger? I think I once paid 11 cents a gallon for gasoline, during a price war between two stations on opposite corners (â68 or â69, I need fuel for my grass cutting business.)
That is a nice story Miserichord. How did he get that big bag into the plane? And if he sat and ate them all, wouldnât he weigh too much to fly? Ha ha!
