By the way the way the old proper spelling was potatoe (as evidenced by the plural spelling potatoes) we have just been to lazy to spell it correctly for the past hundred+ years.
He’s been fairly mocked. rightgrrl blames his mistake on a misspelled flashcard he was given. That wasn’t his only dumb mistake, and he should have had sense enough to know the card was wrong. However, as a politician, he was trrained to read cue cards without question.
well, maybe the world didn’t laugh at the people around Quayle a lot - they aren’t famous and don’t aspire to a high station, do they? No excuses for mr Quayle!
