Mammals are pretty smart and adaptable. We had a chicken coop. If we locked it up with a latch, hook & eye, or anything of the sort, the raccoons would open the door with their tiny hands like they were little people. Then they would bite the head and feet off a chicken and drag it back to their little ones (leaving the head and feet).

So we got a padlock, and that worked for a while. But then the weasels discovered a tiny hole somewhere. If they can get their skull through a hole, the rest of their skeleton unhinges temporarily so it can follow. Weasels start at the rear end of the chicken, and eat the innards on the way up. They don’t eat the meat. You can pluck and freeze the freshly disembowelled bird if you have the stomach for it.

@ Stuart: Super Gross! @the squirrels: Yeah you go ahead and break up the bird feeder and eat it all up cause when you are done I am unleashing the dogs and we will have squirrel and buscuits for dinner. Ha Ha.
