“…a mob of ex-rich people…” Ha!
Does anyone remember the Northern Exposure episode where they had to make cheap wine taste like a $5000 vintage because Shelly had dropped the bottle? They added peat moss for an “earthy flavor” and a bunch of other stuff. So good it fooled everyone including Adam, the ultimate connoisseur . My favorite NE episode.
Never got to see that show, I was working nights. I’m sure I would have enjoyed it. One of my favorite New Yorker cartoons shows a tanker truck going down the highway with “Cheap White Wine” written on the side.
That’s in line with the episode I mentioned, Marguerite. Shelly, the ditzy blonde who broke the real bottle, asked her husband, Elliot (?) the saloon owner if they had a bottle of $5000 wine. He answered, “Heck no. We’d have to knock out a wall to get a bottle that big in here!”
Northern Exposure was a great show, even if they did jump the shark a few times the last season or so. My favorite episodes where were they compared American Indian and Jewish heritage, very cool.
