It’s funny how a chance encounter can change your life. If Gertie hadn’t had that cheeseburger craving, if Earl hadn’t just blown into town (if Suds hadn’t fallen off the wagon leaving Corky short a dishwasher)…
Yeah, Nozzi, but then most people don’t expect to find themselves at the age of 88 caring for a 111-year-old parent.
In fact, I had actually thought that Gertie could stick around after Walt’s death to help out Skeezix and Nina (it’s what I was going to do if I wrote a “Death of Walt” alternate storyline). They’re both clearly in good shape (at least Skeezix is–we haven’t seen Nina in the strip for a while), but again, they’re in their late eighties.
Our lives are all impacted by chance encounters. Just look at the people who post on here. Pure chance that we’ve encountered each other. We may not have a huge impact on each others lives, but there is always some small impression. The butterfly flaps his wings in Brazil and there is a hurricane in New Orleans.
this is my first time to be here. I like this comic strips,b/c it’s my favorite strips since 2005. My story was Corky’s diner about being sold out by hotshot mayor.

Maybe it’s destiny, axe. Comic strip karma.

Karma? Maybe, Stringmuse, but I can’t help feeling there is some unseen, compassionate force guiding their destinies…

Attention all parents, that’s why you should be nice to your kids & treat them fairly cause there’s no escaping karma.

Skeezix is like ninety and he’s Walt’s pcg? Isn’t it about time Chipper or Clovia step in?

At least Walt has his wits and strong long-term memory about things that happened in Gasoline Alley over the last 90 years.

countoftowergrove: Actually, Gertie is Walt’s primary caregiver. Skeezix just comes over to see Walt and give Gertie a break occasionally.
Gertie was hired after the cops dragged Eve and her biker-gang friends away.

I remember a couple of times when Walt wondered off and was lost for a time. I thought sure he was a goner then.
