“Russell Myers is the Salvador Dali of the comic strip world. ”
@Joe Allen Doty, I have long wanted to find a way to express my delight at the Broom Hilda landscapes. You have put it perfectly!
I find the sheer madness of the drawings very relaxing. The laws of physics are, well, “suspended”. Continuity of the drawings from one panel to the next is minimally required (and often there isn’t any at all).
As the mayor says in an old Donald Duck cartoon, on the inauguration of a new piece of sculpture, “Such beauty! Such grace! Such flow of line and swoop of rhythm!” Then in an aside he whispers to someone on his staff, “What do you suppose the ghastly thing is, anyway?”
Well, I feel the same about the drawings as in the mayor’s first statement. I don’t agree about the second - who cares what it is? It flows - it swoops - it pleases the eye! It’s lovely!
No, I don’t usually take drink or drugs in the afternoons - why do you ask??!
JoeAllenDoty, here’s an honest question: how come you can suspend disbelief so readily, in the forest of BroomHilda, but not in the locales of 2 Cows and a Chicken? The one is just as surreal in its own way as the other.
