Willy’s mother, Emeilda, has run afoul of Human smuggler’s and will never be seen again. Willy’s father, Bill Spears, has been married to another woman for 15 years, and has 4 children by her in his home city of Boston and doesn’t want his wife to find about about Emelda and Willy.

Either that, or he’s engaged to be married to a Boston heiress, and doesn’t want anything to interfere with his gold digging.

Willy ends up being take in either by the Morgans or the Dunsmores (older empty nest couple on the cruise).
