“…up the river?” I thought Annie was going ‘down’ the river!
..and up a river without a paddle was exactly the reference I inferred from the opening heading…
What kind of sign can there be in water? A giant arrow carved in the mud at the bottom?
Now, how could Annie avoid hypothermia? She can’t. She’s done for if help doesn’t arrive by nightfall.
One sure sign would be a dead little orphan girl. Cops tend to notice signs like that.
