Ahhh… MDCCCCXXXXVIIII or 1949 (Took me a second to get it. Could have been written MCMXLIX – I’d get that quicker from watching movie credits.)

How would Obama show himself to be so idiotic? Would we even consider an idea to go back to our borders of, say 1835? Wars change borders, and to give them back to the losers is just plain stupid. The Arabs started that 6-day war, so let them live with the consequences of it.

Maybe it was just the wrong guy who got the plans for an ark? Abraham should definitely have “offed” BOTH sons and avoided a LOT of trouble. The real problem came a LONG time before Roman numerals.

^^ The 1967 borders have legitimacy. They were the ones the UN agreed to in 1948.

Impossible to reason with people who believe in the concept of holy land.

snorefoot – thanks – I missed that part of the joke. For the record, the simpler method you cite was added later; the actual Romans would be more likely to write it out the way the cartoon did.

Because she’s wrong. The UN partitioning was substantially different to the 1967 “re-partitioning”. The 1948 UN partition was opposed by the Palestinians since UN mandated powers took decisions for them (i.e. Britain) and hence why there was a war, a Naqba (on either side) and an existing refugee problem.

If the old borders are indefensible, what borders would be? Even if they annex all of the West Bank, Israel will still be tiny hard to defend country. Annexing all of Palestinian land still won’t make it much larger. How large will Israel have to get for it to be defensible? Maybe they should take over Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon? Or maybe they should try or at least be open to making peace with their enemies. As long as the Palestinian people are left in limbo, there can be only the burning desire to be free of Israeli occupation. Long denied freedom breeds violence…

The roman numerals make it look like the never ending opening credits from a 1950s or 60s bibllical epic.

    Entertaining propaganda.

(Propaganda doesn’t have to be false (that’s disinformation), it just has to sell one’s point of view on an ideology)
