Unicorns traditionally have unearthly beauty, but they’re also powerful, dangerous, ferocious beasts. That horn ain’t just for show.
Their sad decline into cuteness and rainbows is probably the result of their common depiction in medieval art (tapestries, manuscripts) as laying their heads in the laps of virginal young women, to whom they are irresistably drawn and by whom they can be tamed.
Metaphorically, the scenario might be…ummm…“romantic”, but it’s decidedly not “cute.”
