Oh, am I glad to read thisâŠ.hysterical! French Canadians have been complaining and whining for decades, no, CENTURIES about the âEvil Englishâ who are trying to âassimilateâ the POOR, poor frenchâŠ.what a load of cr@pâŠPlease bear in mind, I am french Canadian myself. But one with eyes open to the world, and not living in my own little fantasy french-exclusive worldâŠ
Iâd like to see Canada give Quebec what it wantsâŠ. shut the borders, pull all government funding and facilities, and let the separatists see how well they can manage on their own. Memories of centuries-old glory donât have much relevance to the modern world.
I got a chuckle out of this. At time of writing, the Bloc Quebecois â with only Quebec members but forming a federal party (only in Canada, eh?) â were decimated in the last federal election, with only 4 seat in the House, down from about 25.Plus, the Parti Quebecois, the provincial part of Quebec which in the past held two referenda on separation, has recently had at least 4 top level members leave the party. In very general terms they donât see leader Pauline Maroisâ leadership as current or âtuned inâ. I think your average person on the street doesnât much care â itâs the power people that get riled up.If you can find it, there is a book by American Lansing Lamont called âBreakupâ, published in about 2001. Itâs a fictional but factual picture of what could happen if Quebec separated. Interesting read. Check it out.
Thereâs nothing wrong with ending a sentence with a preposition in English. That comes from idiot academics trying to force the rules of Latin onto the English language.

Not only was it hard for HRM to lug all that territory, but she had to put up with French taunters every step of the way.

In light of recent events, perhaps âBritish Columbiaâ would be more appropriate.
