Many years ago I went to a burger joint with friends but had only a little change in my pocket. I asked for a bun. The clerk yelled back to the cook, “one plain regular, hold the meat!”.

Yes, I think it was used at least twice, once with Milo’s grandfather and once with Mrs. Limekiller.
He was ahead of his time! The Atkins and other low carb diets hadn’t fully flourished back in the 70’s.
I loved the Bloom County version with Milo and the top hat and cane. “Let Reagan be Reagan!”
