IMudd – Apparently you are too young to remember. Vietnam was Lyndon Johnson’s war, and he ran it very poorly. Republicans tried to clean up the mess, but Ted Kennedy and other Democrats prevented them from doing so. It appears that you are one the “uneducated pawns” who doesn’t know his history. I lived it!!!
no, vietnam wasn’t johnson’s war…vietnam, goes back to the eisenhower years…what lyndon johnson did, was, exactly what george bush did with the current war…he lied us into the escalation of vietnam, with the gulf of tonkin incident…and yes, i’m old enough to remember it, because i lived it as well…and once we were deeply involved, we didn’t pull out, because it would be a blot on our other wise “great war efforts”….BOTH wars were a mistake and we never should have gotten involved in them…but that’s history and unless you want to rewrite it, that’s the way it is….
johnson believed his military advisors and firmly believed in the domino theory. yes, he lied about ‘tonkin,’ but, again, it was the military who pushed him into his positions. you’re right that our ‘military advisement’ began during the eisenhower administration; yes, kennedy escalated, but none of you has made mention of the fact that shortly after that, he decided to pull troops out at the rate of 1000 per month; shortly after making that decision, he was assassinated. if you believe in conspiracy theories surrounding his death, this is one of them: that the miltary complex did not want to reduce or eliminate our involvement in vietnam.
this comic, however, is making a reference to ‘friendly fire.’ if you remember the one published yesterday, his back was turned toward AMERICAN troops, not the viet cong.
Can’t wait for a strip about Reagan, Lebanon hostages, weapons to Iran, and the Contras. Wooooo doggie! Or Grenada, or how about Israel and the USS Liberty? Another Bay of pigs incident that was swept under the rug.
