Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for February 11, 1990
Transcript:
Susie: I love fresh snow. It helps me avoid Calvin. Winter has wrapped the land in a soft, white blanket, and the earth sleeps quietly. Calvin, out of frame: Whoaa. Oomph. AA! Look out below! Lean! Lean! Augh! Mayday! Bail out! SMASH! Calvin: You call that steering? We almost got killed! My fault? Yeah, step over here and say that you stripey dope! That's right, I'm talking to you! Hey! Ow! Quit biting!! Oof! Take that! Ow! Susie: I think when I grow up, I'll live in the tropics. Calvin: Quit it! Quit it! Let go! Hobbes: Whee! Let's get the sled out of the tree and do that again! Calvin: You know what we need for our sled? A siren!

Is this the first instance of Calvinball?

No, the first is when Calvin declared he did not want to play an organized sport after failing at baseball.

I love the series of expressions on both Calvin and Susie. It’s rare she really gets one up on Calvin like that.

Weird! I’m seeing a strip that has nothing to do with Calvinball.

The funny thing is, in the 5th panel, it’s clearly Calvin who’s steering, but he’s blaming Hobbes
