    Electricity was known long before Franklin. He proposed the kite experiment but probably never performed it (a Prussian scientist tried it and gor electrocuted). It’s purpose was to determine whether lightning was a form of electricity, and it led to Franklin’s subsequent invention of the lightning rod.
