Adam: Rats! Rats! Rats!
Laura: What's the matter?
Adam: Remember that traffic camera at the intersection?
Laura: Ouch...a ticket?
Adam: I always wanted a big brother... ...But not for $342!
Plead Not Guilty. When your accuser (the camera) fails to show up for the trial, the Judge has to dismiss the charges. After all, you have the right to face and cross-examine your accuser!.(Hand in there, Adam â by the last page, you will love Big BrotherâŠ)
Red light cameras are an enigma. They cost more to operate than they generate, cause more rear-end collisions and the fines are âcruel & unusual.â Nationally, a number of municipalities & counties have ruled against using the cameras &/or allowed contracts to expire without renewal. Yet county supervisors and police remain the cameraâs biggest supporters.
Law enforcement will show statistics that indicate total accidents at RLC intersections are lower than prior to camera installation. What they wonât show is the potential for huge revenue boosts to department budgets and the reliance that develops for those funds.
Good luck getting out of an RLC ticket: if you plead NG, and then (inevitably) ruled against, forget any chance at traffic school even if youâre eligible. The judge/commissioner take pleasure in punishing you for challenging the court & deny a traffic school request. Either you plead guilty or no contest & pray for the courtâs beneficence granting traffic school or youâre a goner! Assembly-line Justice!! All in the interest of the judge getting to hit the links/get their nails done/see their mister/mistress!!
Sorry for the rant â can you tell this subject hits a nerve?! To answer the obvious: Iâve gotten two RLC tickets over the course of my 38 years of driving.
Actually he was nowhere near the intersection â almost 1/3 of the âphoto-radarâ tickets are totally bogus!I had to give up driving due to poor vision and put my car in storage, yet got two photo tickets in the next month.
