Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for January 02, 1995
Transcript:
Hobbes: How are you doing on your New Year's resolutions? Calvin: I didn't make any. See. In order to improve oneself, one must have some idea of what's "good." That implies certain values. But as we all know, values are relative. Every system of belief is equally valid and we need to tolerate diversity. Virtue isn't "better" than vice. It's just different. Hobbes: I don't know if I can tolerate that much tolerance. Calvin: I refuse to be victimized by notions of virtuous behavior.

This is the first comic (not counting Sunday, which is out of order in the GoComics archive) after Watterson took his second sabbatical.

I believe the Sunday comics are now all in proper order but I can’t be sure.

And that sort of thinking leads to people like Trumpty Dumpty. And people who think their “rights” are being infringed when they are asked to protect others, when everything ought to be about themselves and what they want.
