I think this strip is a beautiful way to say good-bye to Calvin & Hobbes. It is leaving us with the idea that the story keeps going even if it isn’t being written and drawn anymore. “Full of Possibilities,” is the line Calvin uses, and it makes you smile at this farewell, rather than be merely depressed at the ending of the series.

It was sad to see the end of Calvin and Hobbes but “it’s a magical world”, says Calvin, and we should be happy that we were able to get them in the first place. The series may be over, but the spirit of Calvin and Hobbes will never die in our hearts.

    copcap86,

Those “new” comics are repeats of the original. If you follow those back up to 1985, you’ll see that they’re the same.

And yes, I made this account just to tell you that.

I find it strange that people are calling this sad. Is it sad because a beloved comic is ending? Because the image itself – the part that really matters – is full of hope and wonder. Calvin and Hobbes will always be Calvin and Hobbes; exploring and imagining, having the sorts of adventures that we loved them for.

I thought this was a very touching, creative and imaginative way to end the strip. I think he’s urging us all to say “Goodbye” to the past and go exploring into the magnificent future. Exploring is a way to expand one’s perspective and wisdom, which implies that Calvin, which, to me, is a symbol for the curious and genius little child in each of us, is headed for a bright and exciting future — he’s going to finally grow up. Maybe I will, too.

I loved Calvin and Hobbes so much as it was a reflection of my childhood and the magic and insight that came with being a child and having that special friend who was your comrade-in-arms…the one who knew all your secrets…the one who understood your imagination and who shared in all the good and bad things that you got up to. With this one page, you rejoice because it shows that that friendship will last forever. Thank you Bill Watterson

Calvin and Hobbes is to me the flip side of Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh. Christopher Robin was to me a shy kid whose toys came to life and acted out their gay and adventurous ways. The same was true of Dooley’s World (comic ran 1972-1978, cartoonist was Roger Bradfield). But Calvin was a Hellraiser who took his (sometimes reluctant) tiger companion on crazy exciting adventures.

Imagine if bill starts the comic back up with Calvin age 7, still doing his best to annoy Susie while Hobbes teases him about love, still making snow are of snowmen being viscously murdered, still playing Calvinball in the back yard with ever-changing rules, still contemplating life while sledding/riding a wagon off a cliff, still annoying miss wormwood (Now in 2nd grade), still driving his parents mad enough for them to think about adoption, still thinking about ways to get quick money (and cookies), and still going exploring into the unknown.

Say, I have been wondering this for a while, but what do you think happens to Calvin and Hobbes? Personally, I think he becomes a comic strip writer, Susie and Calvin become good friend, and Calvi passes down Hobbes to his child, where he can have many more adventures.

This is a wonderful way to say good-bye to Calvin and Hobbes. Bill Watterson, thank you for all of Calvin’s imaginary superheroes and Hobbes energetic ways to say “hello” to Calvin when he came home from school. Thank you for Susie who was one of my favorite, and probably one of the smartest, characters in the strip. Thanks for Calvin’s mother and father who were probably a little more strict then she should have been. Actually, just thank you for Calvin and Hobbes! This is one of my favorite comic strips ever, and I thank you for writing this!

I always thought of Calvin and Hobbes as just a comic about a bratty kid and his imagination, but I found out That Watterson left heartwarming and special things in his comic, and it makes us appreciate Calvin’s attitude and everything else in this great comic. This comic was a great way to end Calvin and Hobbes.

This ending is way better than the weird sci-fi ending of my other favorite comic, which also ended on New Year’s,27 years apart. For my favorite,I consider the final Sunday (Christmas that year) strip the ending.

The last comic strip of “Calvin and Hobbes,” published on December 31, 1995, resonates with a bittersweet farewell as it captures the essence of childhood innocence and the inevitable passage of time. In this concluding scene, Calvin and Hobbes embark on a snowy adventure, reflecting the joy and imagination that defined their escapades throughout the series. As they glide through the serene winter landscape, the final words, “It’s a magical world,” serve as a poignant reminder of the wonders of childhood and the importance of embracing life’s adventures. This closing strip not only leaves readers with a sense of nostalgia but also invites them to cherish their own whimsical experiences, making it a timeless farewell to a beloved duo.

    Calvin and Hobbes forever.
