Iām reminded of how that jerk Sen. Harry Reid tried to explain that Americans pay their income taxes voluntarily. How stupid does he think we are?!
Although I volunteered, I served in the draftee Army, and on average it wasnāt nearly as competent as our volunteer Army which all Americans should be proud of. No free country needs to enslave its citizens to defend itself. The all-volunteer Army is one of the great advances of freedom in my lifetime, up there with the fall of the Soviet Union.
Iāve been wondering what the thought process must have been like for those that āvolunteeredā to fight for our independence from England? Maybe something like: ~~Itās time to be willing to die for something rather than just living for nothingā¦
Or is this the way weāre starting to feel again?
Iām reminded of advice my AF recruiter gave me. āWhen the TI (Training Instructor) asks for volunteers to step forward, everyone step BACK. The one fool still standing in place just āvolunteeredā.ā PRICELESS advice I still follow all these (30) years later.
