My old Zenith was the best TV i ever had. What Earl’s daughter hasn’t found out yet, it’s the content of the show that you’re looking at that trumps….such as the black and white, “Casablanca” which is viewed the same on a new HD flat screen as it is an old Zenith TV. in fact, I’d rather watch Casablanca on an old Zenith…..with a curved glass picture tube…..now, that’s class!
Back off, Opal. I’ve still 4-tracks at home and automobile and prefer them to all of today’s available options. Love my vinyl too. Can’t stand widescreen movies & TV either.
These days the gadgets aren’t expected to outlive their warrantees. Mine do. My cellphone was an older model when I bought it new, and that was 6 years ago. My provider calls me every few months to offer me a new one if I agree to a contract instead of a card; I refuse, they yell at me (literally) and I tell them to back off or I’ll change companies. I just discovered that Zen doesn’t even make my Mp3 anymore; I have 2 and they’re still going strong after 4 years.I change things when they break, not when someone tells me I “need” a new one.
Kreole touched on the heart of the matter and that is content. With the junk on TV today, what difference does it make if I do not watch it on a wide-screen high def television or I do not watch it on a 20 year old CRT model.
Definition of HDTV – TV that shows bad programming in such great detail and fabulous color that you are constantly amazed by it even though the programs get worse by the day.
VHS and audio tapes deteriorate over time. I have old VHS movies that I can’t watch anymore because the tape has stretched or they got magnetized somehow. DVD’s aren’t subject to such deterioration and thank God I copied most of my old movies onto DVD before they got so bad.
@llewellenbruce: actually that honor goes to GTE Sylvania, who closed the doors to their last us factory sometime in the 90’s. zenith went to the far east a couple of years earlier than that.
“Zenith: The quality goes in before the name goes on!”
I had an RCA VCR that I dropped off the TV repeatedly, and it kept on functioning, . althrough, I thik the outdoor spiders, rats, pests, and mold storage my parents put it through killed it… gosh, that was a wonderful device! 1995-2007. It would automatically fast forward those annoying commercials!

Wasn’t Zenith the last TV company to quit makingtheir televisions in the USA?

What I watch isn’t worth looking at on HD., so my old RCA does just fine.

I threw out my 8-track player and tapes as well as my Polaroid camera years ago. I do however still have an old beta-format VCR.

Throwing out working equipment is a sin. I’ll buy a flat-screen when these old TVs die, but Trinitrons last a LONG time, so it may be awhile.
