Hi Johanan, I see what you are referring to, but I am actually talking about the belts being over different shoulders in the same panel(as in panel 1). They are wearing uniforms, so usually it should be… urm uniform. Both over the left or both over the right shoulder.
Aka Tim Rickard.
Glad you guys like the daily color. I have nothing to do with it. It’s done by the production crew who handles the strip. Although I think they do a great job, it still makes me kinda nervous that there’s something about the strip that I have no control over.
BTW, the belts over the different shoulders represent different ranks. At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Rockit-On!
Hey dr. mel - thanks for that information regarding coloring. I can understand your apprehension about someone else messing with your creation. Kind of creepy. We also appreciated your comments regarding accidentally repeating a line or quote from another source. If you are creating 365 episodes a year, that would be so easy to do. I was impressed that you were embarrassed (?) to admit the oversight. It never occurred me that you would have to watch out for that.
aka Tim Rickard
Hi, Roger.
It wouldn’t bother me if I came up with a gag or idea that’s similar to something else if I know I’d never seen the other material before. I’d know it was just a coincidence. But it bothers me a lot when that happens and I realize I should have been aware of the similarity (as in Wednesday’s strip.) Oh, well.
Rockit-On!
Don’t feel too bad, Tim (dr.mel), you’re not the only cartoonist who repeats himself accidentally. I spotted the same gag repeated almost precisely in Tumbleweeds (by T.K. Ryan) maybe years apart, and I saved the graphics from both of the online editions.
As far as borrowing from someone else…again, once upon a time that was considered an honorable thing to do. Cross-fertilization is a fact of life. Sometimes we intend it and sometimes we don’t.
(P.S.: I thought the different positions of the belts on the minions denoted rank, too! But the handedness idea works as well.)

Those sliders cut the cheese VERY well.

Wearing the belts over different shoulders, is there some other meaning to it or did I just find Tim slipping up?
That said - the quality of Brewster Rockit is really great! It looks great in color and black and white.
back to today’s strip - rather disappear now than see what your leader do to you with that cheese log.

And I thought the Captain’s cheese log were those narrative bits Shatner did.

How about a can of mixed nuts? You can call it the R. U. Sirius.
Rakkav about 15 years ago
watcha, you’re just confused over who is saying what when. The belts aren’t switched, your identification is. :))

Someone gave Brewster a cheese log one time. Did not work out well - he tried to burn it in his fireplace.

Aw Dr Mel! You beat me to it. I was going to say it represented rank differentiation, like the narrow stripes on the aliens in “V.”
