Of course, it’s always been an option to not use that phrase.

Well, the lady who works next to me has the entire Bible on her portable device so it actually makes sense. Just be sure to touch the right box so you’re not swearing to tell the truth on “Angry Birds.”

Oh, Andy M, nobody is trying to remove God from America, the people won’t allow it. We are endowed by our Creator with inalienable rights and they shall remain strong and steadfast. As for “under God”, that phrase was inserted in to the original Pledge of Allegiance because some Americans were afraid. They were afraid of Communists, a a failed economic and political system of totalitarians. Americans have nothing to fear, nor fear, we shall not be intimidated.

I’m sorry but I don’t understand or buy into some of your statements. Granted, we are not the only country trying to live under God. As for not being a ‘theonomy’, in my research tonight I found the following:

    http://www.forerunner.com/theonomy/theofaq.html

Theonomy means literally, “God’s law,” or the belief that the moral laws of the Old Testament are still binding today. This idea states that only Old Testament laws specifically fulfilled in the New Testament are non-binding (such as sacrificial laws, ceremonial laws and dietary laws). I’ll grant you 35% on non-Theonomy cause we don’ remove hands for theft, tounges for lying or stoning for adultry.

As for Francis Bellomy who wrote the ‘Pledge of Allegiance’ I don’t understand what you mean by it ’isn’t official by any means and was written by a Christian Socialist.’ He was a Baptist minster till 1891. The pledge was written in 1892. Should we throw it out because he was a Christian Socialist? Should we throw it out because it was written in the 19th century? Should we throw out peanutbutter because it was perfected by George Washington Carver? Should we throw out the US Constitution because it was written and signed by an august body of men who were slave owners, christians, atheists, and philanders.

By what Gold Standard should we judge, and by what authority?

Wow… agreeing to all the terms of the Bible? That’s actually a LOT more strict than “Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?” That’s THOUSANDS of pages of terms, statements, and obligations you’re agreeing to… wow…
