@Gajinrabbit: we alway called those bilabial fricative sounds the razz-berries or a Bronx cheer. As for fools, it’s not easy being a fool, especially, when there is so much competition these days

Re: FedoraMs T, sometimes, try as they might, Wikipedia doesn’t get all of it right. In 1897 (possibly earlier) Sears offered men’s Fedoras from 98¢ to $2.25. No Fedoras in Ladies Millinery, but check the Nobby Hat. Fedoras1897 Sears, Roebuck and Co Catalog #104 pg 232 Hats and Caps Department

This following closely on the heels of the quote from Proverbs…are we seeing a theme developing? We are without doubt the best possible audience for a series on fools.

“Get all the fools on your side and you can be elected to anything.”

Skill set? Librarian. That means I know nothing really, but know how to look up things. Otherwise, sports (some), movies (some), certain authors (some). Useless tidbits (a lot).

Makes you want to pull that watch pinned by her collarbone all the way out and let it snap back.

Also, I see one of the mentally deficient hoodlums from a “Thin Man” movie having to repeat the third grade. Today’s his first day.

Friends and family come to me when they have a tricky or challenging writing problem, because of my perceived “way with words.” I write book reviews (see my fan link) that get me on the back covers of books.

I know a lot of trivia about the N.Y. Yankees, whom I have been following since my halcyon youth, and am currently enrolled in an immersion French language class at L’Alliance Française of Denver, where, frankly, I’m in a little over my head. And, oh yeah, poetry of the Romantics.

Skill: I know everything that is worth knowing. (You are all welcome to test that claim anytime.)

Oh, and I don’t do lapidary, but I do like to lap a Dairy Queen once in a while.

“Manierlich ! Manierlich ! Häng deinen Hut doch nicht auf ein Ohr, du siehst ja aus wie ein Hansnarr.” “Ich darf’s nicht tun”, sprach der andere, “denn setz’ ich meinen Hut gerad, so kommt ein gewaltiger Frost, und die Vögel unter dem Himmel erfrieren und fallen tot zur Erde.”

“Manners, manners! Don’t hang your hat over one ear like that, you look a right tomfool!” “Ooh, I daren’t do that, said the other. If I set my hat straight, there will arise such a frost that the birds in the sky will freeze and fall dead to the earth.”

I do lapidary work, and make jewelry. I’m starting jewelry class again next month. I love casting in silver, but I’ve used up all my excess sterling flatware, and at the price of silver, I may have to switch to brass, or work with copper.

T., how did you like my latest lapidary pieces?

The public works department in my home town was recently dismayed to find the city name spelled “Norflok” on a man hole cover. Seeing the cover on the blog made me think of this.Profession: audiologist. I often say my brain is a repository of useless information.

Thanks for missing me, Teresa! That Chuck Norris bootleg toy is a new one for me: http://obituarytypo.blogspot.com/2011/07/chuck-norris-knock-off.html I like how when you take his clothes off, he’s still got clothes molded into the plastic of his flesh!

And speaking of bootleg toys, here’s one that really blew my mind. Anybody remember the Shogun Warriors robot toys from the 1970s? Here’s a bizarre Venezuelan knock off of the Shogun Warriors Mazinga:http://tinyurl.com/44ez2vsI am amazed that the auction’s closing price was more than some used cars cost.Just for reference, here is the actual Mazinga toy in its officially licensed, non-bootleg form:http://tinyurl.com/3h4h68e

I can’t say that knowing a lot of arcane facts and trivia is a special talent, but it has helped over the years. I was pretty good in the history questions of trivial pursuit.
