“The rain stopped.” Why does Hobbes take out an umbrella?Doesn’t he trust Calvin’s meteorological observation and implied prognostication?

My daughter had to do a worm survey for homework last term. It was a project run by a scientist from the Natural History museum and the pack included a sachet of dry mustard for getting the worms to rise – so that’s evidently the official scientific method!

My wife’s latest project is raising red worms which she is feeding vegetable scraps, coffee grounds and newspapers. Her intend is to make compost tea for our garden.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

@ Number 9?: I’m doing my best to learn the King’s English!

(Reading your moniker, I can’t help think of Jimi’s classic tune, “If 6 was 9”.)

This is one I’ve never seen! We did the" worm dance" when it stopped raining so we could collect them for fishing. Of course, we accidently threw them at one of my sisters when collecting…we were helping her!

“As The Worm Turns” . . . a soap opera for birds? Fishermen? Worms themselves?

Love, love, love Hobbes’ expression in the last panel!

It’s all well and good to go “wormucking” when you’re wearing your rain boots . . . not so much when you’ve got bare feet . . . uh, I mean, bare paws!!!!!

Sounds like Calvin’s going worm charming. In some parts this is serious competition (you are given a square of soil and have a set amount of time to “charm” the most number of worms to the surface). Various techniques are considered better than others for charming worms and some are even banned under competition rules!

Calvin, realizing that he’s on the school bus, suddenly emits a terrible cry of anguish… “AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!”Dad (with his morning paper and cup of coffee): “First day of school?”Mom: “First day of school.”
