Calvin should live in Crankshaft’s neighborhood. The firetrucks start rolling as soon as they get word that Crankshaft has brought out his BBQ grill. And I’m sure he has put at least one grill into orbit.
Is Calvin a graduate of the Bessemer Converter School of Barbeque? Looks like the burgers on Dad’s plate are jumping at the opportunity to get hot….
Grill (or tabletop) looks about eye-level for Calvin; belly-button or so high for Dad. About the height of your average kitchen range- or BBQ grill. Doesn’t make it any less funny.

The smoldering embers of the former house would have kept Calvin warm a night or two had dad agreed.

@somebodyshort,Crankshaft would have been more accommodating. In fact, he would take the initiative on his own.

More or less Homer Simpson’s method of grilling.

I think Calvin will grow up to be like Tim, “the toolman” Taylor, flame kissing his burgers in his version of the man’s kitchen.

You know what they say: it’s not done until the house is on fire.

I’ve done the fireball thing with petrol – it’s kinda fun but you want to be a long way from anything burnable

What, and explode the grill so you won’t have any more hamburgers? But then again, weighing the consequences…

…actually, the look on dad’s face in panel three makes me think he actually considered it for a second – after all, he’s a guy…

Everything that’s enjoyable is illegal, immoral, or fattening? At least it is to a six-year-old.
BanjinTsuki over 13 years ago
It’s not because Dad is boring; he just wants to keep the remaining hairs on his head. I can relate.

Is it me or is that grill made more for someone Calvin’s size rather than his dad?!? Seems pretty dangerous to me!

Did that once when I was young. I used a soup can full of gasoline. Took 3 months to grow back my eye brows and lashes.
