Danny Donkey was angry at the comics page. So Danny Donkey went looking for some of the more veteran cartoonists. He found them on a golf course. 'Be relevant to my life,' he pleaded with them. 'I need you' Want more golf bags? Lecherous boss gags? big sandwhich gags? Henpecked husband gags? Hot secretary gags? 'No, no, no!' screamed Danny, 'no more gags from 1952' okay, then, the disco musie. pong? The walkman. surfing! Hang ten, man! 'No, no, no,' cried Danny, 'you don't understand.' We don't understand?! We win comics polls!! Lots of them! All of them! I just thought of ten, more golfing gags. And with that, Danny DOnkey fell to his knees, and the veteran cartoonists hit him with their golf clubs. WHAM BAM! SLAM! And Danny gave up the ghost. hey, I just thought of another golf gag! Goat says, "And how is this 'an uplifting tale of the American comics page'?" Rat says, "Danny dies and doesn't have to read 'em anymore." Pig says, "Ha ha ha ya gots to love the golf gags!"

They only remain popular because boomers are too big a generation and their ridiculous opinions are everywhere you look. New, relevant, edgy comics like Pearls are what people REALLY care about.

While these “veteran cartoonists” have become out of touch and let their material go dry, stale, and simply irrelevant, while the actually skilled cartoonists, like Pastis and Lincoln Pierce, stay in touch and relevant to the times, adapting to rapidly changing audiences.

Granted. Now the only jokes are “corona scary” and “wear mask” as well as “can’t wait for the 2-week lockdown to end” for at least one year
