Rat is very pretentious. He seems to be under the misapprehension that I will share my nickname with him.

Back in my day, that was Mr. $#@%%(). Where are the editors? Are there only six dirty words now? Did George Carlin take one of them with him to the afterlife?

Rat’s notion of “fair” is very narrowly focussed. Luckily, today is Saturday, so this is probably a one-off , and we won’t have to be subjected to Rat’s nicknames for the other regular characters! (I hope!)

Isn’t Crappo the name of Oprah Winfrey’s production company?

    Richard — I dunno.

I lived in a place where almost everybody had some sort of nickname, on the order of (but these are fake) Red Truck Bob, Catfish Annie, Karen Manycats, etc.

Sometimes that made for a lengthy moniker, but it worked.

You could identify people without knowing or remembering full names — and I understood how last names came about, as the nickname was often passed to the children, ie Joe Newboat’s kids would become Josh and Mariah Newboat.

    Right, Kat?

A gift from a being who says he loves you and has vowed to torture you forever and ever if you don’t worship it in exactly the right way while it hides from you.

Rat seems to be onto something.

If a rat is God’s gift to the world, that really says alot about how God really feels about humans

You just have to love Rat..he does what we all want to…I did some, but had to stop as I was accidently calling my neighbors by the names I had given them without their knowledge..not nice names either.

@SusanSunshineTelephone directories in parts of Wales, where the majority of the population are named Jones, used to list people’s nicknames as well.

Thanks Montycants and Dave4B — and LOL.

Yeah, it was a small community, and we had a tiny local newsletter for a while, which not only referred to people by nicknames but made up new ones — a few of which stuck.

And some people just gave themselves names, and no one questioned it.

That was where I became Susan Sunshine, not by choice. Sunshine sounds rather like my last name and is easier to spell — so people just assumed it was a nickname. I hated it, but hey, now it’s fine. People seem to like it, even though I never would have chosen something so presumptuous for myself.
