Is the “asterisk” on the cat’s tail some kind of “rear end” pun?

Even Carmen isn’t sure how many there are or all their names. She freaks out (I think it was during the hurricane) that one of her cats is going to be left behind, but when Chazz asks her to name them all she gets mad and shuts up… because she can’t! Seven is the number that’s usually tossed around, though. It’s never really worked for me that Poncho can talk to humans, birds, squirrels, and Fish (and apparently all those animals can talk to humans too), but cats are incomprehensible to everyone (hur hur hur).

Fish can talk to Poncho because he’s fluent in “dog”, and he can also speak (or at least understand) “cat.” I imagine the dogs speak “dog” amongst themselves, and “human” when necessary. At least some of the cats are on record as not being able to understand “dog”, but perhaps Moo Mittens is an exception. This still doesn’t account for the various birds and squirrels and such that Poncho and the other dogs talk to regularly, but it’s not surprising to me that the only animals the humans can communicate directly with are the dogs; we’ve bred them to be so compatible with us that it’s not that far from real life.

P.S. Looks like Poncho was addressing the wrong cat but how can they be told apart anyhow?

Yeah, no-one being able to talk to the cats doesn’t make sense to me, cause I can usually tell what any one of my little puddins wants at any given moment, and I can tell they all like each other 99% of the time. I would say dogs are a little easier to read, I would not say that cats hide much from us; mostly just their medical discomforts.

Xane_t — makes perfect sense to me that cats are inscrutable. Doesn’t it just seem to be the natural order of things that although cats COULD communicate, they choose not to? :)

Maybe the one thing that the old dog and that motley crew had right was that, well… cats aren’t from around here.

    __I’m talking in Poncho-world, of course. :º)
