Frazz: Not all moderation is good. Going the same speed all the time may be the biggest, most common mistake. Girl: I can't believe Frazz is giving training advice to Mrs. Olsen. Caulfield: Trust me, he's not. Mrs. Olson: 40 MPH is a nice, prudent speed! Frazz: Not in a neighborhood and not on the interstate where did you get pulled over?

It’s not wise to let yourself go Hog-Wilde on the concept of moderation. ;- )

I’ve been around her before. I’ve always called them “Constant speed drivers”, no matter what the speed limit or road type/condition they drive the same speed. Usually they are of the older driver persuasion.

Moderation in all things – including moderation!

It’s funny to imagine Olsen going at 40 mph in a small neighborhood.

I saw M. Olsen’s mugg in my rear view mirror the other day as I was entering one of those idiotic round-abouts (aka circle jerks)…. I’m pretty sure she was only doing 1 mph, as thats how many fingers she was holding up as we exited….. conjoined at the bumper….

I also took one of those insurance courses. I brought up the law in BC that merging traffic must alternate, like cogs in a gear. What is three miles of stop and go in Texas is a drop to 30 mph and keep going BC. The instructor, from the National Safety Council, wouldn’t hear of such a thing, even on a purely voluntary basis. Never adopt some furriner idea just because it works.

I try to drive the speed limit, period. I also make a point to get out of the way if there are impatient drivers behind me, and try not to cut people off. I see WAY too much of that around here. My biggest pet peeve is when you get two drivers in both lanes driving under the speed limit, and driving side-by-side so you can’t get around them. . .

sounds like lots of drivers here in Phoenix

I have twice (four decades apart) gotten official warnings for driving on the shoulder, the first to get out of the way of a boulder-carrying semi doing 90 in a 65 mph zone, the other for driving on smooth concrete instead of gravel loosely attached to asphalt (declared to be superior, therefore the “main roadway”).
The left lane for passing only is part of the Nazification movement sweeping the country, in imitation of the Autobahn where the left lane was only for high Nazi officials. Even during WW-II, the SS could use it, but not the Wehrmacht. Since it had no speed limit, after the war, it was effectively the province of war profiteers, whose cars could go faster than der Käfer Volkswagens. Why do I keep hearing the Horst Wessel Lied every time the crowd cheers a politician bragging about how he is a more effective serial ritual murderer than his opponents?

I agree with your teacher. Nothing worse than traffic moving at one speed and some moron pulls into the traffic pattern at a significantly slower speed. Or said traffic catches up with someone driving at a significantly slower speed. Worse in bad weather.

Depending on the maintenance state 40 mph can be way too much on an interstate, too.
