    There must different laws in different states. In Texas the handicap spaces are closest to the door and only cars with permits are allowed to park there.

    I think it has something to do with the fact the “Handicap” sign has a green leaf rather than the traditional “person in a wheelchair” symbol.

    Handicap spaces are a great way to keep the places in front of the store open, so you can see the ads in the windows(most of the time. Genius!, like HOV lanes(diamond lanes) for commuters – yeah right, it is really an emergency lane, but since the taxpayers pay the bill, it had to be called something else.

    Here we not only have handicap parking spots, but spots for expectant mothers, very close to the door. Sorry, pregnant ladies are supposed to get physical exercise, one of the best ways is by WALKING! I walked all the time every time I was pregnant, faithfully and they were long walks, and I felt GREAT and my labors were all under 5 hours!
