Now that wasn’t so hard, was it, Gunther? Now all you have to do is actually take Rosa to that movie and of course buy her something to eat, either before it or (if your curfew allows) after. Then, just let nature take its course….

Is it sadder than you trolling this comic for the past couple of years? I would have bet there’s nothing sadder than that….

Of course if you ask a girl out, you pay – they’re there at your invitation. If girls ask a guy out, we really are prepared to pay but most guys will generally fight us for the check. Sometimes we can get them to split it, but most guys don’t like to be paid for. Of ourse, we like it because it puts them under an obligation to have sex with us later on that night. (JOKE!)

However, I sincerely doubt that’s the reason Rosa wanted him to ask her out, rather than do all the work of asking him.

Gunther has all these great qualities that other confident guys do not have and cannot have. he can become confident. those other guys cannot become intellectual. Rosa is a nerd too and knows there aren’t many out there like her and Gunther. S

Gunther is not a “Settle” . Hes awkward, shy, and a tad nerdy but he has potential. Hopefully Rosa will bring him up to his full potential. He just needs a push. Bravo Gunther.

I’m happy for Gunther. It is NOT easy to ask a girl out. I was almost 30 when I met my wife, and asking her out was excruciating. I felt like a middle school kid. Ah well, all’s well that ends well.

Oh, and I think even these days, girls still like to be asked by the boy (that’s how it is with my sons anyway).

Yeah, I agree we’re (mostly) all happy that Gunther finally closed the deal – but wait… It was ALL Rosa’s doing. We need to congratulate that smart gal. She got what she wanted and made Gunther feel good at the same time!

Down the road Rosa and Gunther will make Incredibly Intelligent and Beautiful Babies together. Plus Rosa will discover Gunther is an INCREDIBLE LOVER!

Later down the road, Gunther will make a fantastic husband and a father, regardless of who he ends up with. He just needs this time now as a teenager to work out some of his awkwardness. Perhaps he’ll still be a little clueless at times but really, who isn’t?

I agree w Baldeagle. Knute put the first words in Gunther’s mouth and Rosa did the rest, but at least he FEELs like he did it and made him proud – so maybe next time he won’t be so hesitant.

Gunther’s so nervous he probably didn’t hang up and Rosa’s still on the line.

What settling? He’s nice, he’s smart, he’s talented, he’s funny in his shyness, he’s humble, he’s cute, not the Aaron Hill or Quill good looks, but (except for his nose) he’s no ogre. He’s got a lot going for him, I don’t think it’s settling when someone goes for substance over flash.

Don’t be so hard on Gunther, if you’ve ever been in his shoes (I was never having any sisters) its probably the hardest thing in the whole world to have to ask a girl out. I also think Greg has exaggerated it a bit to get the point across. Yes its extremely hard but it gets easier each time, although it never really gets what I would consider easy.

Now… If Gunther is anthing like me, Rosa has to initiate the hand holding and kissising. Yeah… It took me four months to hold her hand, and another three for that first kiss. And She initiated it both. Yes we had sex, Three years later after two years of hinting, she grabbed my sholder and said, “Look do you love me or what, I cant do all the advances!” Done deal.

Some major growth for Gunther today. Let’s hope he gets some good advice how to actually handle the date. If asking her out was hard, I can’t imagine how nervous he is now.

1. What does he have to be nervous about? She’s clearly showing that she’s interested, and unless she’s cruel, she’s not going to reject him.2. She’s also been sitting by herself this whole time. Why didn’t he just move the whole table away to sit with her?

@Alexiel – you’ve obviously never been a young guy who lacks confidence in himself, much less experience with girls. What seems completely easy and obvious to you is completely baffling to Gunther. A good chunk of all the guys in any high school are like this.

Rosa actually decided where and when, but Gunther thinks it was his idea. He won’t be so hesitant next time.

The stress level is about the same as asking your boss for a raise. NO I can’t imangine her in her underware before I talk!

Oh Yeah. Populate our world with more Rosas. Girls – if you’re still reading this instead of just us old geezers & geezerettes, – pay attention to her tactics. The old slogan is “You get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar” Maybe, you don’t want flies, but it works the same way with boys, too.

Most guys (though there are exceptions) just don’t want a girl asking them out, in my opinion. I do think the asker pays, typically, and I think most guys don’t want to abdicate that to save a few bucks.
