Hey Afficionado, didn’t you get it yesterday, when several people tried to tell you how rude you were being?
Just because you can’t figure out how to remove a strip from the alphabet, if I understood you correctly, you don’t HAVE to read or comment on it!
Most of us set up a comics page that includes only the strips we care to follow.
It’s not that difficult — but if you can’t do it, you can at least click on “Comics A-Z” to get the full list, instead of paging through, and then just don’t open the ones you dislike.
Afficionado, my friend, if you can find a rude, insensitive post from me, I’d like to see it so I can apologise to the person affected — but I doubt you can.
Closest I can think of that I’ve ever come was last night, when I merely asked someone whether he was making a joke, and I meant it.
You do make other posts that I enjoy, and you’ve said, yourself, that you enjoy my comments.
I’ve never considered you a foe.
But I was brought up to think you don’t walk into someone’s home, office, or even an artists gallery (which this is) and make unsolicited and unfounded nasty remarks.
And in this case, they’re about work that other people obviously understand and enjoy, so you should realise you’re missing the joke, instead of insulting those who get it.
We wouldn’t be here every day if we didn’t.
Perhaps it’s too Amercan-centric sometimes for you to see — but that doesn’t make it unfunny to us.
Posters here are usually happy to explain if you ask nicely.
And sure, you CAN be as rude as you like, and you MAY be as rude as you like, but we’re talking about whether you SHOULD.
Whatever you say affects others; this planet isn’t called Grechworld.
BTW — Those who CHOOSE to display their dubious talents on a television show whose hosts are known for ridiculing the less gifted already know what to expect.
Simon Cowell is more cruel than I’d be in exposing those failings, but he’s also handsome, funny, affable the rest of the time, and famous for other endeavors.
His opinion, negative or not, is actively sought, and respected, by the would-be artists, because they know he’s an expert.
He gets away with it all because he’s got enough clout in the field of commercial music to offer them a chance at a bright future.
A highly valuable feature of comics.com, now lost, was the ability to vote a strip as “good” or “bad” with one click of an icon, and a display of the number of each click, giving every reader the resulting information at a glance. That gave the authors valuable feedback and the readers basic knowledge of others’ opinions, without causing the annoyance that afficionado’s attempt to do the same thing has caused. Please, gocomics, restore that facility. Everyone will benefit by it.
Please accept an afterthought: If anyone agrees with me, I suggest that you click “Contact Us” under “HELP” in the footer of this page and say the same thing in your own words with your own thoughts.
I also asked that they give us a comments count, the way comics, com did, on our home page, so we can refresh that instead of opening every forum to find it still the same.
The ratings for strips and the thumbs up/down for commentors displayed only the overall total, not how many each way, so were often manipulated.
I’d prefer to see no negatives offered, but at least the scores in both diections.

Thanks for adding to the discourse, Afficionado. It’s always great to hear from such a sophisticated intellect.

I actually knew some strange people who used their garage like this. Needless to say, I tried to avoid visiting.
Afficianado, I would really like for you to tell us one of your own high-quality jokes, although it would probably be too intellectual for most of us.

I like to compost, but only outdoors and in a far corner of the garden just in case it smells. My last “landscapers” did not understand the concept.

That’s great, you don’t even need to go outside to dispose of the bodies.

Your role model? Wow. Good luck.

I’ve done that a couple of times, thanks Ronald.
