Paige: How's your 500-word history paper coming? Peter: Well, based on past performance, I'm already a quarter done. Paige: What do you mean? Peter: I know I'll use the word "The" about 25 times, "and" at least 15. "in", "if", "it" and "but" should give me another 30-40. Toss in the usual "is", "was" "will be" verb assortment and I'm sitting comfortably at 120-plus words before I even start. The key to writing a history essay is knowing your essay history. Paige: You never fail to amaze me. Peter: Thanks. Who'd we fight in World War I, by the way?

I never had to write an x-word essay. Must have been a pain before word processors, when you had to actually count all the words! (And then the poor teacher had to read all the hand-written essays…)

Ok, now I’m REALLY dating myself. Got out of most college courses that required essays but finally got a “History of Comedy” course (no, it was not fun.) Decided to bag the typewriter and use a computer – didn’t like WordStar, or AppleWrite … but did love the brand new system – Macintosh 1.0. So cool to see the words and format on the screen was the same thing that printed out! WYSIWYG! (What You See Is What You Get.) Boy was I impressed! They’d sell a BILLION of these things! ROTFLMBO (I think I still got a C or D in the course, though.)

Ah, to heck with it. The stupid movie ads have made this site unreadable.

“Groans” Peter, you’re suppose to do research before you write the essay.
