Oh, my goodness, you guys… my husband and I just finished watching the movie “Dean Spanley” about an hour ago, just before I logged on here. It was so funny, touching and beautiful!!! It was partially about a dog’s take on the world, and Satch looking at the sky reminds me of the movie’s explanation of why domestic dogs bark at the moon. I know this isn’t the proper forum for recommending a movie, but I hope that any dog lover would want to see it. (It’s really about so much more than dogs, as well.) “Dean Spanley”… if you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor. I haven’t been so impressed in a long time!

Now, back to the subject at hand. ( At paw?) What a classic gem! Brother Bucky the SuppliCat, eyes towards the heavens, paws outstretched, pondering the unknowable mysteries of this world. ~ As M*A*S*H’s Father Mulcahy might have said, “Jocularity! Jocularity!” ~~ Kudos, Mr. Conley!!!

The meaning of life is obviously “42”, UNLESS the sky is blue.

Of course, dumping on Mohammedans isn’t hate speech but snickering at the pope is. God, I love irony

OK, as a liberal and an American I know I’m supposed to be offended by the"how many liberals would it take to fund the therapy for all the trees around it" line but I can’t be. It’s just too funny!

Bucky waxes all philosophical when all Satchel wanted was a weather update. And here I thought Satch was asking a science question and was going to tell him all about the blue pixie dust……

I listen to a lot of European music sung in English; pretty much all Europeans seem to sing in an American accent!

Elton John was asked why British singers didn’t have British accents. He said it was basically because Elvis didn’t have a British accent and as kids, they were trying to sound like him.

True. But when you keep breaking up wavelengths of all sizes, by various means, you wind up with a prevalence of the shortest ones.

Loving the “pope’s hat being ironic…”, Bucky doesn’t know the word “iconic”, so he thinks it’s just meant to be funny…Now, I am a little saddened by the whole “liberals” thinking that the neighboring trees need “therapy”. I think that Darby is leaving open his political stance on this one, a little vague, I’m confused… Is he slighting liberals? or is Bucky slighting liberals? Inquiring minds want to know… :)

there would be no liberals to fund the therapy since they’d be too busy hugging the trees.

Hope that was a joke, bird —

You can’t break light into shorter wavelengths, like bits of spiral spaghetti!

It still “bends” at the same intervals, so the wavelength stays the same, no matter the overall length of the scattered rays!

Simply put, the sky is blue cos blue light, being of almost the smallest wavelength, is easily absorbed and scattered by atmospheric gases, so it comes at us from all directions, while other colors go straight past as almost white beams.

    It’s called Rayleigh scattering.

Interestingly, to me, anyway, violet light has the shortest wavelength, so the sky “ought” to be purple.

But there is less violet light than blue in the mixed light from the sun, and, also, the nature of our color vision causes our eyes to respond more to blue.

Too complicated to explain here, considering that this is already more than anyone wanted to know, even Satchel. LOL

That’s why I opted for the blue pixie dust explanation. Shorter.

The sky is blue. No clouds. There is likely an area of high pressure very near. The wind will be low for a short time.
