I’m visualizing that you didn’t really have to draw this strip!

Visualizing a future for someone without their consent is negative magic. It never does anyone any good.

Mom, just skip a generation and start working on Annie.

Don’t give up on Lila, yet, ironflange. LOL. Thank you, everyone, for your kind comments yesterday and for loyally reading the strip. You keep me going, despite a difficult market. Hope everyone has a great week!

Mom, get a life of your own. Lila, just let go of the speaker button and go back to whatever it was you were doing.

Comic reader: So, here in the righteous red state we live in, we have to suffer through ‘Mallard Fillmore’ in our newspaper 7 days a week and “The Meaning of Lila” , a genuinely, consistently funny strip is not even syndicated?.Comics syndicate representative: You don’t think ‘Mallard’ is hilarous?.(comic reader slowly shakes his head and releases an audible sigh)

Lila was removed from the US military overseas newspaper, Stars & Stripes, about a year or so ago, too. I found the strip too good to give up on, so I read it online now. Thanks for a great strip, John.

Hi fr8-cat…thanks for your comments. “Lila” is syndicated by Creators but is only in a handful of newspapers. It was in several more and major newspapers until Boyd came out and then it was removed for “space” reasons. It’s definitely been a struggle to get a more alternative comic strip in the newspapers. Creators has been very diligent, but the fight may just be too hard.

Lynn Johnston lost a few papers when one of her characters left the closet. It also explains why Mallard stays. The newspapers are dependent on advertising from multinational corporations. These corporations depend on a divide and rule principle and bigotry is the easiest way to divide.
