How difficult would it have been to say, “Children, I’m sorry, but something important is happening and I have to go”? Even kids understand that the president is a busy man. Instead, we got a deer in the headlights.
Though I don’t think much of FDR, when the papers couldn’t print the comics because of the war, he sat in front of a microphone every Sunday and read the funnies to America’s children (?). And for you liberal FDR lovers, I’ll admit America was in a much bigger mess then
Lewreader: Are you sure you’re not thinking of Mayor LaGuardia in NYC? Well maybe it was both. This was a sort of beloved anecdote from my parents’ generation, so it was odd to realize this was during a strike and hence was sort of a strike-breaking move. But even my left-wing relatives didn’t see it as a bad move fr thatreason.
How are we spending today by insulting each other here in the USA? This is a great land. Where else would first responders have run UP those stairs by the hundreds? Spend the day being kind to each other, not calling each other names. Be kind and generous and loving. Remember 9/11 and those that died in that outrage.
