June: I'll never forget the time 16 years ago when you left a pack of gum in your shirt pocket! It went through the wash and ruined everything! Even now, when all is said and done, I'm still upset about it! Ralph: It may be all done, but it's never all said!

The key to a good marriage is two good forgetters, er I mean forgivers. He can always try to shift the blame though,. “If you would have gone through the pockets first before doing the laundry, we would not be having this discussion now, would we? What’s for lunch?”.Don’t think that would work very well though.

“I’ll never stop complaining” wasn’t part of her wedding vows. She needs to drop it.

Yes. One of my teenage kids had gum in her pocket and it was a mess to clean out of the other clothes and the dryer. The washer didn’t fare too badly in the ordeal. I find the best thing to do in these situations is to make the perpetrator clean up the mess – then they never forget it either.

You can always get gum out by 1) Freezing it with ice or dry ice. This works if it’s not embedded into the fibers of the cloth. After freezing, you just break it off. OR 2) With an oily product like vegetable shortening or peanut butter. You work it into the gum until it looses all it’s stickiness and then just clean off the shortening/peanut butter. OR 3) If it’s REALLY embedded and #1 and #2 don’t work, I have used carburetor cleaner, gasoline, acetone and paint thinner with some success but sometimes they themselves leave a stain.
Yeah, the perpetrator needs to take responsibility. Builds good character and makes for good citizens. AND Always check the washing machine and dryer after unloading a gummed load to clean out any leftover residual. Just don’t use a flammable solvent in the dryer or make triple SURE that it all has evaporated and been dispersed before firing up the dryer again. You might launch it into low earth orbit otherwise…

Does your chewing gum lose its flavor in the washer overnight?

Actually, Ralph must be doing good if she hasn’t been able to come up with anything new since then.
