Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for September 19, 2011
Transcript:
Roland: "Lydia Green, a conservative Republican from Wasilla, was president of the Alaska state senate... Green leaves no doubt about her feelings. 'Sarah becoming governor was an insult to educated women. Sarah was a know-nothing idiot who hadn't paid her dues. I think she's literally without morals, as well as being paranoid and narcissistic.'" Telephone: Bzzzz! Roland: Yeah, boss? Roger Ailes: Get in here. Now. Roland: Trouble? Ailes: You might say that.

Becca doesn’t look that pretty when she’s angry.

I beg to differ, leftwing! Don’t knock the “avenging goddess” look.

Since Roland’s review tweets were authorized by Joe McGinniss himself (see link below), the “trouble” is all in Trudeau’s imagination. That is to say, his Becca Fickle (Lady Fortune) plays the dea ex machina who re-enters the strip to destroy the house of cards that Doonesbury has become. She looks angry, but—-like the redhead cashier who couldn’t give Mike the time of day—-she may have lost patience with this senescent cartoonist who made her mishandle the galley proofs. It’s always fun when GT lets his characters rebel against him, as did his SP golem (action doll).http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/18/sunday-review/the-political-provocateur.html?scp=3&sq=The%20Rogue&st=cse

“Green leaves no doubt about her feelings.” Roland: “Book – houseplants approve of Sarah Palin.”
vwdualnomand about 13 years ago
if even 1% of the book is true, then why in the world would mccain pick her as vp? and, now she has prez aspirations. TLC lost money on that crap show. her book sales are in the toilet. anything that her and her family touch will become crap shortly. wasilla and the state are still cleaning up her messes. her endorsement is a kiss of death.

What? Another week with the Sarah Palin book???

How come there’s no similar book on Biden?
Radical_Knight about 13 years ago
I’m not a fan of Sarah Palin’s, but how many of the people trashing her has ever even run for a public office much less been elected and served…even for one day?
leftwing_conspirator about 13 years ago
This whole Left/Right commentary is a little funny given that Palin only uses politics as a means to accomplish the fame that she profits from both financially and egotistically. She is no more a symbol of the working class as George Jefferson was of Black people. Get a grip, stop drinking her Kool-Aid, and she’ll go away.
krumblitz about 13 years ago
Thank God, Becca is going to put an end to this nonsense!
Spamgaard about 13 years ago
No morals, paranoid, and narcissistic? Sounds like a politician to me…
gromitsperson about 13 years ago
Think she’s as angry as Bailey, Devon, and Morris were when McGinniss leaked their book before it had a publisher?
platinumboy7 about 13 years ago
Again, the Chicago Tribune will not run this week’s strips because they violate the Trib’s fairness policy. I can see why. Commentary on verifiable events is fine. Commentary on unfounded rumor is out of bounds.
BrianCrook about 13 years ago
I thought that the story arc had ended, but G.B. Trudeau wants to finish it. That Becca would get into see Roger Ailes is highly unlikely, but I’m curious to see where this leads.
These excerpts of Joe McGinniss’s book are quite entertaining. Why does ANYONE take Sarah Palin seriously?
BE THIS GUY about 13 years ago
I’m hoping this week the focus will be on Becca getting back at Hedley and Fox and not on what that book says.
Stephen Gilberg about 13 years ago
Nice to have assurance that Becca is not just a figment of Jeff’s imagination.
ironflange about 13 years ago
It’s never a good idea to piss off a redhead, especially a female one. Let’s just hope she isn’t PMSing right now
ironflange about 13 years ago
Oh, and the bit about Sarah being paranoid and narcissistic isn’t anything new, at least to anyone who’s ever seen her in action.

it happened too a cousin of mine – she became a neo-con after 9/11 & we had to sit shiva on all political discourse.
Dtroutma about 13 years ago
When will "righties " understand that “lefties” do NOT “hate” Pallin. It’s more an issue of feeling sorry for a poorly trained chihuahua, and it’s trainer. The dog won’t shut up, nor can it be trained to “sit” properly. It does go up to strangers and begs for attention, constantly, and may snap if not given its treats.

Obama is making new all-time lows in the polls, so let’s attack Palin, then people won’t notice that the ship is sinking.
Kirk Sinclair about 13 years ago
@saw4fireguy, believe it or not, people can attend to more than one thing at a time.
TELawrence about 13 years ago
Todd Purdum’s 2009 article, “It Came From Wasilla” for Vanity Fair laid out Palin’s background and terms in public office. It made cleear that nothing in her life has happened by chance; all has been laid out in an attempt to gain the limelight.
Kirk Sinclair about 13 years ago
@Night-Gaunt49 – sadly GT always seems to be a bit behind the curve. Typically the foibles of the subjects he lampoons are already well known to the general public, such as SP, whose 15 minutes of fame expired many months ago. Jon Stewart is much more ahead of GT in this respect, no doubt because the format of his show gives him time to provide context, explaining what’s going on and who are the relevant characters. Comic strip artists have no such luxury. They have to work with what’s already in the public mind.
Uncle Joe about 13 years ago
Palin is just another “reality” TV star. Not sure if GT is picking on her because he thinks she’s relevant or if he’s really picking on people who still think she’s relevant. Given that Roland Hedley is covering the story, I’d guess the latter…
FriscoLou about 13 years ago
Ha, Ha, good one grithr.
Kirk Sinclair about 13 years ago
@AKHenderson – McCain picked Palin to bring in the social conservatives who were at best lukewarm toward him. As for the people who wouldn’t vote Republican under any circumstances – they weren’t voting Republican BEFORE he picked Palin. And choosing her cost him many moderate Republican voters who couldn’t stand her. But net, he gained, by picking up the social cons. It was just a bad year to be a Republican, after eight years of Bush/Cheney.
FriscoLou about 13 years ago
I was reading through some of the tweets to a Palin piece, when I saw one that really jumped out:
“En fait, Sarah Palin était une sacrée débauchée.”
I’m proud that everyone here is more respectful than those French Pigs. Just ask DSK.
maree pavletich about 13 years ago
Yeah, well I’m still bitter about Hillary, she would have been brilliant. And before your say how is it my business, since I don’t live in the US, the US has a pretty far reach economically.
