Transcript:
Pig: Mornin,' Steph... how are you today? Pastis: Terrific, Pig! The sun is shining... I had a great jog... ate a tasty breakfast... now I'm just gonna hop on the Internet here and check out my strip for today and see what people are saying about - AUGHH!! YOU $*#@ son of a $&#@@! Pig: You should stay off the Internet, Steph. Pastis: 'Cartoon Critic 2544' is so hard to please.

Let me guess. Cartoon critic 2544 is Rat?
Kamino Neko over 13 years ago
Iâd say thatâs darn near 100% certainty.
That said, anyone else checked the comments on the last couple strips hoping to see CartoonCritic2544 posting?
Keno21 over 13 years ago
Maybe Cartooncritic2544 doesnât like those tacky, sell-out plugs for personal appearances? I mean, for Godâs sake, the man is sticking a *@%#&ing COMMERCIAL into his strip!
bkpage over 13 years ago
Aw itâs ok Pastis, I like this strip! Itâs the highlight of my day at work after I get everything done :)

cartoon critic 2544 over 13 years ago
Iâm not that hard to please, just do as I suggested with the you-know-what.
Proginoskes over 13 years ago
@ Radish the protester: Actually, he doesnât read these comments. Heâs said so before.

Richard â actually I was teasing, and had nobody specific in mindâŠ.. just a very common name.
I agree that Tom is usually (ugh) CruiseâŠ.
MeanwhileâŠ. did I see you post someplace that you were in Madison WI?
Lovely city â and home of my alma mater â Madison Central High (which [ssh] you will probably realise means Iâm kinda getting old.)
SusanSunshine Premium Member over 13 years ago
And that reminds me that somebody suspected yesterday that I was PastisâŠ.
WellâŠ.. all I can say is⊠I DO live in the same cityâŠ..
I wish he would give one of those talks here, instead of always running away.
I think heâs afraid if he appears too often in Santa Rosa, people will start to recognise him at the grocery store.
Right now, we donât âwe just assume heâs the guy in the ski mask.
Stephan â Iâd promise to forget what you look like, but you keep drawing yourself in the strip.
CartoonCritic_2544 over 13 years ago
All I said was Stephan is looking more and more liker Johnny Castaway. Honestly, some people are SOOO sensative!

Is Pastis disguising someone on this comment-board as cartoon-Pastisâs bĂȘte noire, CartoonCritic2544?
Although many cartoonists, Pastis among them, say they donât read the comments on their strips here, I suspect that in fact most do drop in at least occasionally to sample their public; and a flaming critic such as âŠ2544 could evoke a response, even if it were indirectly done. So play nice, gang; I do so dislike seeing cartoon-Pastis swearing a blue streak in public when impressionable, innocent minds (Pig, not you) are aroundâŠ.
Tirasmol over 13 years ago
you are all missing the highlight of todayâs strip ⊠look at that headband!
CartoonCritic2445 over 13 years ago
2544 is my brother. Heâs notoriously hard to please. That said, we only want Pastis to put forth his best efforts. But I suppose even the best have some off days.

Donât sugar coat it, Stephan ; tell us how you REALLY feel !

Oops, sorry I think the strip is simply superb, makes my day.
NKBoyle over 13 years ago
Maybe CartoonCritic2544 is his mother or father. 2/5/44 could be his or her birthday. Pastis was born in 1968, he or she would have been 24 when he was born.
hariseldon59 over 13 years ago
Tom Hanks, Tom Jones, Tom Petty, Tom Brady. I donât think youâd call any of these guys âsemiâ famous.
Varnes over 13 years ago
Only one Varnes!
BananaSlug over 13 years ago
So you if I criticize him enough, heâll mention me in the comic? SWEET.

Look at what youâve done, cartoon critic 2544! Now I have to have my little siblings out of the room when Stephen checks his comic! I will have REVENGE!!!
Cart00nCritic2544 over 13 years ago
Sophomoric, Mediocre Humor. The need he has to put himself in his own strip as means to justify its bad puns and outlandish story lines shows his lack of creativity in the area of comic expertise. Why do I continue to read this junk? perhaps out of pity for the creator.
Number Three over 13 years ago
Well he isnât called " CartoonCritic" for nothing is he?

Any relation to âAngryFan1138â at Cow and Boy? Or john abrams?

Pastis has us making comments to comments that havenât even been made. Rat would love it.
Gracey James Premium Member over 13 years ago
Ok, I know Rat wonât like this but I find Stephenâs strip, creative, relevant, insightful, and down right funny!

I love this strip above all others, and one of my favorite scenarios features cartoon Mr. Pastis.
cartoon critic 2544 over 13 years ago
He was such a good boy, thought he was going to be a good lawyer, but then he started drawing. Sigh. âCartoonbuyâ
Spyderred over 13 years ago
I agree. Pig and Rat are so dependable that itâs easy to guess what theyâll say â but Stephan brings in delightful uncertainty.
daphne343 over 13 years ago
CartoonCritic2544 is most likely Jeffy from Family Circle. But itâs just a guess.

Prince John: âYou know I canât take bad news. The day started out so good. I had a good nightâs sleep, I had a good BM. I donât want to hear any bad news. So, what kind of news is it?âSheriff: âWell, to be perfectly frank, itâs bad.âPrince john: âI knew it!â(Robin Hood: Men in Tights)

Popeyesforearm over 13 years ago
Yeah, itâs gotta be rat.Itâs been said here that Pastis never reads these boards but I bet secretly he does. I like Lincoln Pierce at Big Nate who embraces his readers and shares ideas. I used to email Pastis many years ago when he first came out and lobbied The Oregonian to add him to the funny pages. He always replied and was pleasant. Then he hit the big time and is behind the wall so to speak. Glad to see him coming to Portland next week. Hope I can get there to meet him in person.

CartoonCritic2544 is usually posting on editorial cartoons ;-]
Keno21 over 13 years ago
STILL donât like getting a commercial along with my PBS. Itâs like those advertising graphics they now superimpose over every TV show. Ever try to watch âThe Seven Samuraiâ in Japanese when those damn ads are covering the subtitles? Itâs so⊠crass.
