Trivia: The first person to pull the football away from Charlie Brown was not Lucy, but Violet.
The LAST time Schulz used the Football Gag (in 2000), Lucy was called away and turned the football-holding job over to Rerun. It is unclear from that strip whether Rerun pulled the football away, or whether Charlie Brown finally got to kick the ball. Rerun’s line to Lucy in the last panel is a smug “You’ll NEVER know.” And neither will we. A fitting end.
I’m more concerned about what happens when a batter knocks a baseball in his direction: He spins around losing every accessory except pants and underpants. Back in 2000, pro football players did a flying-kick tribute in an ad. The baseball gag is harder to envision in real life.

Just once I’d like to see Charlie Brown kick the stuffings out of Lucy.

Doesn’t that fancy private prep school with their overpaid staff teach physics?
