Water comes and water goes. Yes, water goes around the rock, but it’s a different water from a little while ago. Just when you think you find some water you can settle down with, it’s gone. And, yes, it breaks your heart, but you go on, only to have your heart broken again. And all the while, the water just laughs at you. Laugh, water, laugh! When you’re old and wrinkly and alone, I’ll still be here.

Better still, is to be yourself, and be able to choose when it’s appropriate to be water and when it’s appropriate to be a rock.

Finally, Little Miss Holier-than-thou is following her own advice. Let everyone be themselves and stop bossing them around.

You wouldn’t expect the ancient Romans to be on the same page as Lao Tse, but they used to say, ‘Drop by drop the water wears away the stone’.

“There is no rock so strong that water and wind cannot wear it away, no fire so fierce that water cannot quench it or wind snuff it out.”

(Any corresponding sayings among those who favor earth and fire are not recorded.)

And in the end…. Sir Dudley is flying the white flag of surrender.

Although speaking of Water, her Earth personality was becoming Fire till possessing Air qualities and moved on.
