There was a kid who wanted a new bike for his birthday, but his parents said they couldn’t afford to buy him one. His mother suggested he try praying for one. So every night, the kid knelt down and asked for a new bike. His birthday came and went, but no bike. “Maybe for Christmas” his mother said. So he kept praying every day, and come December 25th the only bike under the tree was for his sister’s Barbie™ doll. So that night, he took the family’s statue of the Blessed Virgin, rolled it up in all the discarded gift wrap, put it in a shoebox, tied it with string, sealed it with duct tape and put it in the darkest corner of his closet. That night, he knelt by his bed and said, “Okay, God, if you ever want to see your mother again, let’s talk about that bike…”

My name is Nancy. I’m 67 years old. I have read this comic since I was a little girl. I’m very disappointed in how the Gilchrists have changed the content in the strip. Ernie Bushmiller never inserted religion or god into this strip. It’s not needed in this strip. Stop it!

Oh, He hears you Nancy and He IS answering your prayers. God is tell ing you to wait and be patient. He’ll come through for you. Just go to Sunday School and read your Bible and stay away from Harry Potter books and movies.

Guy ~ Thank you so much for this, as well as for ALL the other days when prayer was included in the strip. Today’s Nancy hit close to home, as I’ve learned that the best thing to do in the case of “mean people” is to pray for them! It is very comforting to do so as well.
