hillbilly, forgot about that, he DID always duck!……I suspect that prop gun hurled by the bad guy packed more punch than those sound-effects -produced bullets that apparently bounced off his chest……remember that smug look of superiority on his face as the bullets bounced off?
My weirdest thoughts of the day happen in the few seconds just before I fall asleep. Often when I’m just waking up too. Thankfully I’m lucid the rest of the day.
I wondered about this as a child, watching reruns of the George Reeves Superman. But, even when I was six years old I couldn’t make the physics of Superman work and it bothered me.
He didn’t start flying until the Fleischer cartoon series. The leaping looked stupid in the animation tests, so they just decided to let him fly instead. But the whole “Faster than a speeding bullet…. Look! Up in the sky!….” bit had already started with the radio series (with the same voice cast, by the way), and was then carried over to the old TV series.

Superman trivia: He couldn’t always fly. Leaping came first!

That “Leaping over tall buildings” slogan came before he could fly.

An angsty Superman… probably the only remaining take that hasn’t been done before… no, wait! that was “Smallville”! Never mind.

It used to take him 2 or 3 bounds to clear just a medium building.

Of course he needed that (hidden) trampoline in front of the windows he leaped out of.
